YYSL Beyond the Field Scholarship

Application window: April 1-24, 2026.

Purpose

The YYSL Beyond the Field Scholarship recognizes graduating seniors who exemplify the character, leadership, and perseverance cultivated through participation in the York Youth Soccer League. While the game is played on the field, its lessons extend far beyond it.

Through this scholarship, YYSL celebrates the lasting impact of the game on the lives of its players and the broader community.

Scholarship Overview

  • Number of awards: Two (2) scholarships

  • Award amount: $1,000 each

  • Application deadline: April 24, 2026 (11:59 p.m. ET)

Scholarship funds will be issued directly to the recipient’s selected college, university, or trade school.

Proof of enrollment is required before funds are distributed. Funds must be used within 12 months of the award date and may be applied toward tuition, fees, and required educational materials.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a current YYSL player scheduled to graduate high school in Spring 2026

  • Be rostered for the Spring 2026 season

  • Have participated in at least two (2) YYSL seasons, including the current Spring season

YYSL administers this scholarship program in a nondiscriminatory manner consistent with applicable law.

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit a completed scholarship application that includes:

1. Essay

A 300–500 word essay describing how participation in YYSL has impacted your personal growth and future goals.

Your essay may discuss topics such as:

  • Leadership, teamwork, sportsmanship, or defining moments during your time in YYSL

  • How coaches, teammates, or referees influenced your development

  • Challenges you faced and how you persevered

  • How lessons learned through YYSL will help you achieve your educational or career goals

2. Recommendation Letter

One recommendation letter from a YYSL coach or teammate.

Selection Process

YYSL will award two scholarships to the applicants who most strongly demonstrate the values of leadership, sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth developed through participation in the league.

Applications will be evaluated based on:

  • Essay quality and clarity

  • Demonstrated personal growth

  • Embodiment of YYSL values

  • League involvement and contribution

  • Coach/teammate recommendation

Selection Committee

The Selection Committee consists of four members of the YYSL Board of Directors.

If a committee member is the parent or guardian of an applicant, that member will be recused from discussion and voting and replaced by another Board Member.

YYSL reserves the right to review submissions for authenticity.
